6 Nov 1901 Ellis Wilford Wilde born to Wilford Hewlett Wilde and Olivia Mortensen at Brigham City. His family lived at the Box Elder Road Mill on Canyon Road, near Box Elder Creek. It was the main highway from Brigham City to Box Elder Canyon. He lived in a house two doors from the school in Brigham City (on Main street?). Ellis attended Brigham City Central Elementary School and Whittier Jr. High. He later moved with his family to a flour mill. The buildings eventually burned down. 1917 Ellis moved to Ogden at age 16. Started high school twice but never finished. Attended Ogden High School one year. Then worked two years. Then went to Box Elder High School (4th and Forest Street) for a half of a year. His first car was a 1914 Oldsmobile. He made a "bug" out of it. His father's car was a 1916 Buick. ------------------------------------------------------------ 3 Apr 1904 Sarah Ellen Rose born to William James Rose and Matilda Marie Petersen at Bear River City, which is 10 to 12 miles from Brigham City. She lived on a farm in Bear River City. Her father had a small garden in Bear River City and a larger farm outside the city. Ellen attended Bear River School. She sometimes stayed with her sister Edyth in Little Mountain. She finished 8th grade and then lived one more year at home before leaving. She started high school but never finished. 1921 Ellen moved to Ogden at age 17 and lived with her sister Ann and her husband Fred. Ann was sick at the time and she moved in to help. ------------------------------------------------------------ 1923 Ellis and Ellen met at Michell Dance hall. Ellen moved in with her sister Liddy. Ellis would take the street car from 8th and Washington to 24th street, and walk across the Viaduct to West Ogden. 14 Nov 1924 They were married in Ogden by his father, Wilford Hewlett Wilde, who was a bishop. Three months after they were married, they both moved in with Ann and Fred in Brigham City. Ellis' father asked him to work at the mill ( Sperry's Flour Co. ). 1924 Worked at the Globe Mill in Ogden. May 1925 Moved to Brigham City and worked at the Box Elder Roller Mill with his father. He made pallets. 17 Jan 1926 First child, Neil Ellis Wilde was born. May 1926 When Neil was just three months old, Ellis quit his job and they moved to Logan with Ann and Fred and Ellis worked at a Safeway grocery store. 1927 His father's (Wilford Hewlett Wilde) mill in Brigham City burned and was destroyed. 1927 Just before Wayne was born, they moved from Ann and Fred's, back to Ogden, where Ellis worked for the Royal Mill ( 29th street in Ogden ). Royal was a part of General Mills which had taken over Sperry's. He tended the boilers. He fired the boilers to heat the building. 18 Apr 1927 Second child, Wayne Eugene Wilde was born. Jun 1927 Worked for Metropolitan Life insurance for a short time. 1928 Worked at Royal Mill. When the depression hit, he was layed off. Ellis' father, Wilford, and his sister Ruth helped with the food during the depression. 25 Jul 1930 Third child, Kenneth James Wilde was born. ???? They lived at West Court off Adams and then moved to West Ogden at 712 24th Street. Fall 1936 After the depression was over, Ellis' father told him, "Build a house". His father bought a lot for him and gave him $600 to get started. 1937 Built and moved into basement of 219 Franklin St and lived there while the rest of the house was being built. Spring 1939 Moved into the upstairs of the house. The house was finally finished later on in the summer. The house was finished just before their last son, Ronald, was born. 26 Jul 1939 Forth and last child, Ronald Wilford Wilde was born. 1940 World War II started. Sep 1943? Worked for the Wonder Bakery on Grant ( ? Continental Bakery ) as a maintenance man for nine months. Knew and liked a Mr. and Mrs. Wetterman. Kenneth fixed them potato salad made from potatoes, onions, and salad dressing. 1944 Asked for a raise in wages. He didn't get the raise he asked for, and he resigned. He went to work for the Naval Supply Depot on 2nd street as a civilian worker. He made wood box ends for cargo shipping boxes for shipping tools and machinery. It was hard work. The plants were built hurriedly. The #12A Defense Depot was only heated with pot belly coal stoves. Working conditions were cold. 1945 World War II ended. 12 Oct 1946 Neil married. 1947 Layed off from the Navy Base for a short time. 1949 Just before the war ended he was layed off a second time from the Naval Base. Went to work for a mattress factory (? Desert Industries ). 10 Jun 1949 Wayne married. 3 Aug 1950 Kenneth married. 1951 Went back to work for the Naval Base where he worked for the next nine years. 1960 Transferred to the Hillfield Air Base when the Naval Base was shut down. 2 Mar 1968 Ronald married. 1970 Retired after working just over 19 years for the government. He was given credit for 20 years of government service and received a pension from the government. Looking back he said that he had not planned to work for the government, that is just happened that way and that is was the best thing that could have happened to him.
